Dorothy picked-up a walnut on the playground and asked me to crack it. I took-out the nutcracker, but the shell was too hard. She wanted to try, but of course it wouldn't work for her, either. I suggested she bring it to Dad, which she did. She returned to the room and let me know, "Mom, the whole family doesn't know how to do it."
Our neighbors have been decorating their yards for Christmas. The nice neighbors directly across the street have two little boys and this year they have decorated with a large inflatable Yoda (dressed as Santa) and a large inflatable Darth Vader (holding a gift). We stepped out the front door and Dorothy stopped in her tracks. She stared for a while and then said, "Those are not Christmas things. They are Halloween things."
Dorothy's school celebrated Polar Express day. All the kids wore their pajamas. I asked her afterwards if they drank hot chocolate. She said no. But then she told me that her teacher was confused so they drank cocoa with marshmallows.
Mom, to Dorothy: You really like pecans, just like Daddy and me.
Dorothy: And also do you like toucans?
Dorothy and Sarah made peanut butter cookies; when Brian got home, I asked Dorothy to tell Dad what the ingredients were. She said, "Dad, it's all the things you like."
Dorothy is interested in the human body. She put her hand on her chest to feel her heart and told me, "My heart pumps the food down in my belly."
Sarah and Dorothy made play-doh with Kool-Aid powder to add color and smell. Dorothy showed it to Dad later and told him to smell it because "It smells like Coke."
