We were watching the Masters, which might be Dorothy's first exposure to golf, and she made several good observations. When a player did a practice swing, she yelled, "He didn't even hit the ball!" And when CBS showed a montage of players over the years hitting balls into the water on the 12th hole, Dorothy said, "Oh, they're showing the outtakes?"
Dorothy was listening to a podcast that tells folk tales, and the intro to an episode about Giant's Causeway said, "Now, scientists will tell you that these matching stone columns in Ireland and Scotland were created by volcanoes...But legend will tell you..." Dorothy hates volcanoes, and was coming up with an alternate explanation for the Causeway. She said something about rocks tumbling down the side of a mountain, and I reminded her, "Well, the podcast said it was created by a volcano." Dorothy retorted, "Well, only scientists think that."
Lately Dorothy will make up a game she wants to play, such as a pillow fight. I'll agree, and then she'll explain that there are 4 attempts in each round, and 6 rounds in the game...
The day after we got our second vaccinations, I was lying on the couch and Dorothy asked for a second Fruit Roll-up. I was thinking about how she was having to fend for herself for food that day. "Usually I would say no, but I'll make an exception today," I said. "Because you're too tired to say no?" she asked.
