The Sunday Funnies
We were discussing the cake for Dorothy's ocean-themed birthday party. "I think we should buy a cake from a store," Dorothy said, "so you won't have to make a mermaid out of fondue."
Dorothy was completing her math homework. The problem read: "Sally's twin brother, Sean, has 348 fiction books and 109 nonfiction books. If Sean has read 300 books, how many books has Sean not read?" Dorothy complained, "Why do they have to say Sally's twin brother, Sean? That has nothing to do with the problem. They could just say Sean has 348 fiction books..."

The Sunday Funny
Traffic was harried on the way home from school. "I've heard three horns. I hope they're not beeping at me," I said. "Maybe they're honking at you because you only have one hand on the wheel," Dorothy offered.

The Sunday Funnies
Dorothy's class was taking a look at old technology. I emailed her teacher and offered to loan her our rotary phone. Dorothy read over my shoulder and added, "You should have told her that it was a phone with the little circles on it."
Dorothy couldn't find a passage I told her was in parenthesis. I pointed to it on the paper. "Oh," she said, "I was looking for air quotes."
I spilled hot water and burned my hand. After some minutes, Dorothy asked me, "Do you want to face your fears, and pour some more hot water for me?"
We were putting on our shoes to join my neighbor and her daughter for a walk. Dorothy said excitedly, "I need to think of a conversation starter!"
Dorothy and her friend played board games throughout the morning. Later, she said sweetly, "It's fun to play games with friends. It's more fun than playing with adults."
