The Sunday Funnies
In her song Dear John, T. Swift sings, "All the girls that you've run dry have tired, lifeless eyes 'cause you burned them out." "Eww!" Dorothy recoiled. "He burned their eyes out?"
We were listening to a podcast about social rules, and the podcast pointed-out that you wear nicer clothes to church than you wear every day. "Not me," Dorothy noted. [This is true. She picks out her own clothes.] The podcast continued: "And you wear different clothes to sleep in than you wear in the daytime." "Not you!" Dorothy observed.

The Sunday Funnies
I loved the Sweet Valley Twins series as a kid. Recently I picked up a few of the books for Dorothy. She was chatting about the main characters, Elizabeth and Jessica, and she referenced The Sixers, which turns out to be the school newspaper. When I asked what The Sixers was, Dorothy fussed, "Mom! Didn't you say you read these!?!"
I went into Dorothy's room to wake her up the morning after the Grammys. She was just a blue lump, 100% covered by blankets. "Last night, Taylor Swift got two awards and announced that she is releasing an album on April 19," I told the lump. Was it awake? A moment passed. "A re-release or a new album?" the lump gruffed.
Dorothy explained, "At school they've made fractions easier for us because we all lived through Covid." "Oh," I replied, "so the math that kids usually do at the beginning of third grade, you're doing closer to the end of third grade?" "No," Dorothy clarified, "they're just making the fractions easier because we all lived through Covid."Saturday, February 17, 2024

The Sunday Funny
Dorothy was poised to make a clever observation about Taylor Swift. "Mama, you're gonna want this in The Sunday Funnies," she told me. "Get ready to write it down."
