The Sunday Funnies
Dorothy: Why when I was a baby I learned to stand up?**
Mom: Well, first you learned to roll over, and then to sit up, and then to stand, and then to walk, and then to jump, and next when you are bigger you will learn to skip, then drive a car.**
Dorothy: And you will get littler and littler and then you will be in a car seat.
Dorothy: I want a different doll. I want the one that has no hair, just a line.
Dorothy is starting to notice that her Mama is tall:**
After Mom & Dad stood up in church, she announced loudly, "You are big. You are small."**
I pointed out at dinner that her fork was enormous. She said, "It's enormous, like you."
Dorothy is possibly at her cutest when she wakes. She launches right into whatever is in her mind, with no pleasantries or explanation. I wrote down her first morning words for the last week:**
Sunday: I'm still tired.**
Monday: Can I have some chocolate chips?**
Tuesday: The thing you were reading about is missing.**
Wednesday: Mama, wake up. It's morning.**
Thursday: Can we visit Evan & Eden?**
Friday: When we were at the playground I wanted to get in the thing that was at the playground.**
Saturday: Where's my baby bunny?
Mom: Well, first you learned to roll over, and then to sit up, and then to stand, and then to walk, and then to jump, and next when you are bigger you will learn to skip, then drive a car.**

Makin' cookies
You might notice lots of pictures of Dorothy and food. It's because she's at her stillest when she's eating.

The Sunday Funnies
Dad: I finished the baking powder.**
Dorothy: Little babies need to use baking powder.
Handing me the Tinkertoy instructions:**
Will you look at this map and make this train?
Dorothy, unprompted:**
When you was a baby, Daddy & me made you.**
(thinking pause)**
When Daddy was a baby, you & me made him.
Dorothy likes to look through the recycle bin and plaintively ask, "Why you throw this away? I not want you to throw this away."

The Sunday Funnies
Mom: It's time to finish.**
Dorothy: How about we can play for second more minutes?
Dorothy: How about we can play for second more minutes?
Dorothy has hair clips with images of the cartoon character Sofia
the First. She was holding the hair clips and asked to watch Sofia.**
Mom: I don't think we
have the Sofia show.**
Dorothy: She is an ad.
She comes on before Cinderella.**
Pulling off her socks, exposing sock lines:**
Look, my ankles have bracelets!
Pretending, like she does
often, to be a baby:**
Mom: What did you dream about last
night?**
Dorothy, in a baby voice: I'm a
little baby and I can't answer.
Dorothy: (with glee) The t.v. turned itself on!**
Mom: I used the remote
control.**
Dorothy: (with glee)
The t.v. turned itself on with the remote control!
There is a water fountain at the neighborhood park, but we bring
our own bottles. After playing with her friend Lucy, Dorothy said,
"Lucy said the water fountain is for people. But Mom said it was for
dogs."
Mom: You were supposed to finish
your red apple before you eat the green apple. Did you bite the green
apple?**
Dorothy: No, I just bumped my teeth on
it.We watched a little girl run from her house and climb into the passenger seat of a running car.**
Dorothy: That little girl knows how to drive!
Dorothy was upset that the wind was blowing her hair in her face and around her mouth, while at the same time she was trying unsuccessfully to eat a ring pop.**
Dorothy: The wind is blowing my hair, and it's not leaving any room for my ring pop!

First day of school
Dorothy went to school excitedly, and there were no
tears from her nor Mom, nor the teachers, as far as Mom could tell.**
She reviewed the day:**
"We used shovels and buckets, and we played
with puzzles and toys."**
"And one kid said, 'No don't sit in my
spot!'"**
"What did you do?"**
"I sit in a different spot."**
"One teacher fixed my hair. She got
rubber bands. One was stuck. But she didn't get it out."
