Why does 'Tuesday' start with the number two?
At Mass the congregation sang several verses of a Christmas song I had taught Dorothy; she leaned over and said, "Mom, you didn't know the whole song."
We were resting on the couch and watching a cartoon; Dorothy asked me, "Why do you always sleep during my movies?"
Dorothy was excited when we woke up to snow on Christmas Eve in Chicago. She asked me, "Did you pack my skis?"

The Sunday Funnies
We were playing doctor, and I asked Dorothy a few questions, followed by "What brings you here today?" She replied, "Mama's car."
I said, "Uncle Daniel, Aunt Valerie, and Cousin Alina are coming over tonight, and we will give them their presents." Dorothy looked at me and slowly asked, "Exchange presents?"
I asked Dorothy what kind of pizza they served at the school party. She said, "plain pizza".
Dorothy was noticing that I had called a particular piece of bread "a roll" one day, and "a bun" the next. When I offered her a bun, she asked, "A bun, or [thinking pause] a ball?"
Grace asked Dorothy what her favorite breakfast food is. Grace's favorite is pancakes. Dorothy told her, "Pancakes are a night food."
Dorothy woke me in the morning and started talking about the morning, and light coming through the window, and eating a chocolate from her advent calendar, and her dream, and on and on. I was less than responsive and might have even put a pillow on my head. Then she told me, "I'm going to go talk to Daddy."
I asked Dorothy if she knew where her pajamas were. She said, "They're in the washing machine. Actually, they're in the drying machine."
Dorothy was watching a Tinkerbell fairy movie and told me, "Mama, did you know that fairies can walk by flying?"
Dorothy asked me when my birthday was. I told her February 4. Then she asked, "But when was your kid birthday?"

The Sunday Funnies
Dorothy: I don't want raviolios. I want boney elbow pasta.
Dorothy wanted nail polish remover. She asked for "wetness that goes on your toes to move off your toenail polish".
Good questions to ponder (or Google), courtesy of Dorothy:
How does morning change to night? How does it change back to morning?
How does your phone take pictures?
How do your eyes move?
I ordered a raincoat for Dorothy and tried it on her at home. I was considering returning it when Dorothy announced, "Mom, I learned to pull the tag off!"
I mentioned that we would not need to pack a lunch for school on Friday because they were going to have a pizza party. Dorothy asked, "Lots of pizza or one pizza?"
Sarah: Let's go to the couch and look at some books.
Dorothy: Yes, and read them!
Sarah: Ewww, don't lick me. That's yucky. What would Gram say?
Dorothy: But this is our house.

The Sunday Funnies
Dorothy picked-up a walnut on the playground and asked me to crack it. I took-out the nutcracker, but the shell was too hard. She wanted to try, but of course it wouldn't work for her, either. I suggested she bring it to Dad, which she did. She returned to the room and let me know, "Mom, the whole family doesn't know how to do it."
Our neighbors have been decorating their yards for Christmas. The nice neighbors directly across the street have two little boys and this year they have decorated with a large inflatable Yoda (dressed as Santa) and a large inflatable Darth Vader (holding a gift). We stepped out the front door and Dorothy stopped in her tracks. She stared for a while and then said, "Those are not Christmas things. They are Halloween things."
Dorothy's school celebrated Polar Express day. All the kids wore their pajamas. I asked her afterwards if they drank hot chocolate. She said no. But then she told me that her teacher was confused so they drank cocoa with marshmallows.
Mom, to Dorothy: You really like pecans, just like Daddy and me.
Dorothy: And also do you like toucans?
Dorothy and Sarah made peanut butter cookies; when Brian got home, I asked Dorothy to tell Dad what the ingredients were. She said, "Dad, it's all the things you like."
Dorothy is interested in the human body. She put her hand on her chest to feel her heart and told me, "My heart pumps the food down in my belly."
Sarah and Dorothy made play-doh with Kool-Aid powder to add color and smell. Dorothy showed it to Dad later and told him to smell it because "It smells like Coke."
