The Sunday Funny
On our way to school we pass a Dairy Queen, and it recently closed, and the sign has been disassembled.
"Why did that Dairy Queen close?" Dorothy asked. "Was it that thing where the workers stop working for a while?"
"A furlough?" I asked.
"No."
"A strike?"
"Yes, that's the one. Or maybe the workers all decided to quit."
"Maybe."
"Or maybe all the workers are sick?"
"Could be."
"Or maybe they decided to get jobs somewhere else?"
(I thought she was going to bring up the supply chain next.)

The Sunday Funnies
Dorothy borrowed two flashlights from Gram and brought them to Uncle Daniel's house. Afterwards, back at Gram's house, I asked, "Dorothy, did you leave all the flashlights at Daniel's house?" "No," she answered, "there's one left."
Dorothy's spelling homework was to do a practice test outdoors in sidewalk chalk. There were 8 words. When she was done, I started to "grade" it. I said, "skills...correct...10%. rocks...correct...20%." Dorothy stopped me right away. "You're only going to give me 80%?" she figured out.
I told Dorothy that I took a trip to the store but it didn't have what I needed. "It was a bomb," I said. "It was a bummer," she countered. "Bummer is bad, bomb is good."
Dorothy's class has an elf that moves around at night. I asked Dorothy, "Where does she live when it's not Christmas? I mean, what does Ms. Hattrich do with her?" And Dorothy informed me, "Well, she's from the North Pole, so I assume she lives there."
