The Sunday Funnies

I was meeting someone and we were introducing ourselves and chit-chatting for a while.  Dorothy pulled my hand and whispered in my ear, "Say something about me."

We love the book Blueberries for Sal.  We picked blueberries from our own bushes and Dorothy dropped them into her own tin pail.  The she asked, "Why does little Sal's blueberries go 'kuplink, kuplank, kuplunk', but mine only go "kuplunk, kuplunk, kuplunk?"

Dorothy asked me questions about spit.  I gave a long, on-the-spot, probably made-up answer.  She responded, "How do you know so much about bodies?"

Dorothy did something wrong and I told her, "I don't think so, Mister."  She replied, "You mean 'Misses'."

I'll be sorry when Dorothy stops saying "exposed to" when she means "supposed to".

Blue pigtails time

I used a blue hairspray on Dorothy just for fun.  She admired herself in the mirror, pointed her finger at the part in her hair, and said, "Look, you kind of sprayed my spine."

The Sunday Funnies: "The Princess and the Frog" Edition

I was tucking Dorothy into bed, and I asked her, "What will you think about while you're going to sleep?"
"Princess stories," she replied.
"Do you know what princesses think about while they're going to sleep?  They think about Dorothy Dean in Savannah."
"Really?" she asked.
"I'm just joking," I said.
"What do they really think about?"
"They think about Prince Charming, I guess."
"Well," said Dorothy, "one thinks about opening a restaurant, and the rest think about Prince Charming."

The Sunday Funnies

Dorothy loves activity books.  We do some activities and skip others which require spelling.  Dorothy asked, "So what is spelling all about?"

Dorothy put 10 hairclips in her hair but had to use a mirror to see them.  She then said, "If only my arm hair was longer, I could put clips in it and look at them."

Lately Dorothy's fits are frequent and powerful.  Her thoughts are totally transparent, though.  She'll scream, "I want to do what I want to do!"  Or "Come here so I can hit you!"  During her meltdown at the zoo, she asked for her sippy cup so she could throw it.  She asked for it again.  I said, "Are you going to drink from your cup?  What are you going to do with it?" and she screamed back, "Give it to me!  I'll show you!"

We had a fun week in Chicago and somehow managed to snap no pictures with Grandpa.  But here is a very cute picture of two of his favorite people!

The Sunday Funnies

Watching Dora the Explorer, who asks the audience questions, Dorothy said, "She thinks I'm in the movie!"

I was sweeping when Dorothy pointed at a tiny spider in the dust pile and said, "That piece is moving on its own."

As you may know, Elsa & Anna were orphaned when their parents' ship went down in a storm.  Dorothy asked Brian to pretend to be the king, and I told Dorothy, "Tell him not to get on any ships."  Dorothy relayed the message, and Brian said, "Why?  Because you don't want me to die?"  Dorothy laughed and said, "No, silly!  I don't want you to drown."

The Sunday Funnies

In the shed Dorothy noticed the painted wooden wreaths that we hang on our house at Christmas.  She said,"I remember those wreaths.  They are different than real."

Lately we've been playing in the mud.  We take off Dorothy's clothes & shoes before entering the house, and head straight to the tub.  The muddy shoes were piling up outside the door.  When we were entering the house after being outside, Dorothy looked at the shoes and said, "It seems that I have played in that mud three times."

Dorothy helped sweep and use the dustpan.  Then she dumped the pan on the closed garbage lid and stepped on the pedal.

The Sunday Funnies

We saw something with a picture of The Little Red Hen on it.  I said to Dorothy, "Do you remember that story?"  She said, "Yes.  The animals were all mean to the hen, so she was mean to them."

Dorothy:  "This cookie is hot and cold."
Sarah:  Oh, it's hot in some places and cold in other places?
Dorothy:  Yes, and I really like both of the places.

Sarah:  It's so nice outside.  Let's eat al fresco.
Dorothy:  I don't like that.
Sarah:  You don't like what?
Dorothy:  I don't like that food.

We were doing a puzzle.  I pointed to a picture of an empty spot next to the image of a window.  The curtain was partially missing.
Sarah:  Something's missing here by the window.  What is it?
Dorothy (enthusiastically):  A puzzle piece!
