I asked Dorothy what sort of fun she had at Gram & Big Daddy's house. She said, "Gram doesn't exactly play with me. She watches me play. When I have a little girl one day, I will exactly play with her."
I complained after driving Dorothy to school, "We caught all the red lights." Dorothy said, "We caught all the green ones, too."
Dorothy loves letters and got very excited to learn that "knife" begins with a silent Kk. Now she wants to know if everything is silent -- "Does apple have a silent Aa? Does Dorothy have a silent Yy?"
A few months ago when I took Dorothy to the YMCA pool only to find out that it was closed, she cried and I took her to get a treat at Pelican's Snoballs instead. This week again we got to the Y and the pool was closed; she said calmly, "That's okay. We can go to Pelican's Snoballs."
Dorothy loves babies. She's not so good at catching and throwing balls. We were gently tossing a basketball and she was jumping back and flinching. Finally I told her that the ball is a baby, and she needed to reach out and catch that baby. It worked like a charm.
