The Sunday Funnies

We have a hand-me-down paperback Barbie book, and we recently watched the Barbie movie of the same story.  The movie was long and included much more detail.  Dorothy said to me, "I know why this book doesn't have the whole story!  I think some of the pages were torn out!"

Dorothy often misunderstands when villains are being insincere or sarcastic (or using terms she doesn't know) and she credits them with kind intentions.  In the Barbie movie, the scared villain spoke to the heroine's barking dog, "Nice puppy, nice puppy."  Dorothy said, "The bad guy is calling him a nice puppy, so the bad guy must be a little bit good because he's calling him nice."

I complained that my body creaked and I must be getting old.  Dorothy responded, "It's hard for Gram to get down and it's hard for Big Daddy to get up."

We were gluing sequins on paper.  I asked, "Are you sad?  You look sad."  Dorothy said, "No, that's just my craft face."

Bacon Park Dr.

I was looking up restaurants near my house, and I entered my address on Google Maps.  I called Dorothy over to show her the picture of our house on "street view", which was taken when we had Halloween decorations on display back in 2014.

I told her, "This is a picture of our house when you were just born.  That was back when we had those two big trees in the yard that you see in this picture."  I kept noticing details that have changed.  "That was back when we still had those little bushes along the walkway.  That was back when the neighbor's house was yellow, so that's why we still call it 'the yellow house'."

Dorothy, looking at the picture, chimed in: "That was back when there were words in the street."

The Sunday Funnies

Sarah:  Do you want to go outside?
Dorothy:  Nyah. (This is a new addition to her vocabulary.)
Sarah:  What?
Dorothy:  Nyah.  That means "no".

Dorothy let me know that ladybugs are only girls, not boys.  I asked if baby ladybugs have daddies.  She said, "They just have two mommies."

Sometimes I'll ask Dorothy a question and halfway through the story I'll realize that she has explained it to me before.  She usually also lets me know that she is telling me again.  Recently, she's let me know by saying, "I told you this when I was three."

Dorothy made this Halloween t-shirt

After I told her that (lacking an orange shirt) purple can be a Halloween color, she chose to make a blue pumpkin and a pink ghost.

The Sunday Funnies

Dorothy watches YouTube videos of toy unboxings.  The person on camera will often ask a question, such as "Do you like this new puppy dog?  If you like it, say you like it in the comments."
Dorothy will respond aloud, "I like it in the comments."

Dorothy's teacher Ms. Candace mentioned to me that she has two horses.  I mentioned this to Dorothy, who said, "She also has two dogs.  One of her dogs has four legs, and the other dog has three legs."  "Oh?  What happened to the fourth leg on the other dog?" I asked.  Dorothy said, "It was stolen."

Mushrooms and jelly shoes

Dorothy was in the yard with Dad today when she came inside and excitedly told me that she had found a mushroom. She borrowed my phone and took a picture of it for me.

Halloween catalog

I love it when I discover things around the house Dorothy has done without telling me.

I'll find the step stool out of place and look up a few feet to figure out what high thing she was trying to reach.

She hides little rocks and other keepsakes from the school playground in her socks and they fly out when she takes off her shoes at home.

Here you can see that she paged through a Halloween catalog and circled all the things she liked.  (On other pages she crossed out the creepy things she didn't like.)
