The Sunday Funnies

I cut a rose from our bush and put it on the kitchen table.  When it was over a week old and past its peak, Dorothy asked when I was going to replace "the rusty rose".

Aunt Cathy mentioned that her little dog won't go near a certain relative, who dropped the dog when it was a puppy.  Three months later, our neighbor mentioned that her little dog doesn't like to be picked up because her son dropped it when it was a puppy.  Dorothy apparently took both stories to heart, and later observed, "The same thing happened to both puppies, but they had different feelings about it."

Since Dorothy turned five, we've been telling her that it's the right time to do certain tasks for herself.  Dorothy ventured, "I think it's the right time for you to get me a slide in the backyard so I can go out there when you're too tired to go to the playground."

When Dorothy is very tired and crying at bedtime, she asks for "Crying Raggy," her nickname for her Raggedy Ann doll on which she wipes her tears.
