The Sunday Funnies

Dorothy and I have been reading her Phoebe and her Unicorn graphic novels aloud.  She knows them well.  At the top of each page, she announces which character she wants to be, as in, "I'll be Phoebe's mom on this page."  She's looking for the character with the more interesting dialogue.

Despite our discussions, Dorothy pronounces the word "gymnastics" without the Mm:  "gin-astics."  She claims all her friends say that.

At school, two kids were playing ball at recess and collided; one needed stitches in his forehead.  I figured this out after the initial story, which was that "Isaac bit Jace on the head!"

Dorothy learned that humans walk heel-toe, but run toe-heel.  She tested the theory, and was excited that her source was correct.  She explained, "Everything they said is true, mostly because they're scientists, but also because I tried it and it worked on me!"

The Sunday Funnies

I bought a travel toy that is a spot-the-license plate game.  Dorothy noticed that the image of the Georgia license plate is different from the standard plate; I told her that it was an image of an old plate.  "Mom," she caught on, "did you get this at a thrift store?"

We were watching The Music Man, and the teenage lovebirds are seen in the library sitting close together behind a large copy of Romeo & Juliet.  "Romeo & Juliet!" Dorothy said.  "That's a funny Easter egg."

The Sunday Funny

I happen to know all the words to the songs of Beauty and the Beast, and couldn't help myself while we were watching the live-action show on Disney Plus.  "Mom," Dorothy looked at me, "this isn't technically a sing-a-long."

One more shot from her first class

There's a low balance beam and a balcony for parents to watch.

This gym is much safer-seeming than the one I remember taking gymnastics in.  The "team" gymnasts are in another gym with traditional equipment.

The Monday Funnies

Brian & Dorothy were watching a Christmas Disney cartoon, and there were only two reindeer available to pull Santa's sleigh, which was too heavy for them.  One had an idea to hitch Pluto to the sleigh.  "Three reindeer?" Dorothy questioned.  "That's uneven.  They'll just go in circles."

Dorothy was reading a book series called Goddess Girls, with title characters such as Athena.  I asked her if the books are set in modern-day or in Ancient Greece.  She held the book out and quickly answered, "You tell me."

After we returned to Savannah with a new Build-a-Bear in tow, Dorothy complained, "At Grandma and Grandpa's house, you treated my axolotl like a real pet, but now that we're home, you're acting like it's just a stuffed animal."
