The only donut Dorothy knows is strawberry icing with sprinkles

After Saturday night Mass Dorothy was disappointed that there were no donut holes.  I told her we could go to church again the next morning if she wanted a donut hole.  She agreed.  This was so pathetic that we took her straight to Krispy Kreme.

The Sunday Funnies

Recently I'll ask Dorothy a simple question, and she'll give me a lengthy answer.  It goes like this:
Me:  Dorothy, do you want milk?
Dorothy:  If I go like this, the answer is yes (she'll stamp her foot once, or wave her arm over her head, or similar).  If I go like this, the answer is no (she'll stamp her foot twice, or wave her arm in front of her belly, or the like).
Then she will choose one of the motion options for me to interpret her answer.

We listen to audio stories that are often folk tales and origin stories.  After each fantastical story, Dorothy will ask me, "That's not real, right?"  I told her, "No, these are folk tales.  The stories are pretend but some of the things they are talking about, like the sun and the ocean, are real."  Dorothy responded, "They should be called fake tales."

The Sunday Funnies

Dorothy filled out a questionnaire at school about Brian.

I LOVE DAD!!
MY FAVORITE THING TO DO WITH DAD IS to cook with him.
MY DAD'S AGE IS I don't know.
DAD'S FAVORITE FOOD IS pizza.
I LOVE DAD BECAUSE he says, "Do you want to lick a snowman?"

The Sunday Funnies

Happy birthday, Brian! Dorothy answered these questions at school for you.

The Sunday Funnies

We were waiting with other moms, kids, and siblings for ballet class to start.  One little baby was being walked around with her mom's help.  Dorothy announced to the room, "Look at that cute baby girl.  She's almost bald.  But she's wearing a little bow headband!"

As I tucked her in Dorothy asked me if I could "wake her up in the morning with 3 new LOL dolls."
I asked, "You mean you want me to go to the store, buy LOLs, and give them to you in the morning?"
"Nooooo," she said, "online!"

Dorothy was copying my words, so I decided to have a little fun.
Sarah:  I wish I had a mom named Sarah.
Dorothy:  I wish I had a mom named Sarah.
Sarah:  And she would be tall and nice.
Dorothy:  And she would be tall and nice.
Sarah:  And I would love her more than LOLs.
Dorothy:  And I would love her [pause] as much as LOLs.

Dorothy is ultra-competitive nowadays; her little friend Willa is not.  We were playing Win Lose or Draw, and as I drew each picture, and Dorothy guessed the right answer, Dorothy and Willa would each make an exclamation.

I drew a watermelon.
Dorothy:  Watermelon!
Me:  Right!
Dorothy:  I guessed it first!  I win!
Willa:  Watermelon is so yummy!

I drew grapes.
Dorothy:  Grapes!
Me:  Right!
Dorothy:  I guessed it first!  I win!
Willa:  I love grapes!

I drew a swimming pool.
Dorothy:  A pool!
Me:  Right!
Dorothy:  I guessed it first!  I win!
Willa:  Swimming is so much fun!

I took Dorothy to the doctor where she was diagnosed with pink eye.  I explained to the doctor, "Yesterday she started looking puffy under her eye, and her eyeball is pink."  Dorothy added, "And it sticks."  We looked at her -- "What?"  She looked back at us, winked very slowly, and said, "When I do this, it sticks."

Dorothy at ballet

Dorothy is in the black tap shoes, closest to the teacher.
The ballet school has a video monitor that feeds to the waiting room.

The Sunday Funnies

Dorothy was looking at a cd in a cd player, and said, "That spinner that makes the music actually goes around and around!"

We got in the car to deliver a Christmas present to my cousin Elizabeth's family.  When we arrived across town, Dorothy asked, "Are we here already?  I thought cousins lived far away?"

Dorothy's often-used and cutest word lately is "incluting" or "incluted"; as in, "I used all the colors incluting pink" or "You're not incluted in this game."

The Sunday Funnies

Dorothy loves listening to a podcast for kids called Ear Snacks.  Its hosts are Andrew and Polly.  One episode mentions that their audience listens to episodes again and again, which is true for Dorothy.

Dorothy asked, "Since kids listen to the episodes again and again, don't Andrew and Polly get tired of doing it again and again?"

...

I explained that Andrew and Polly record the episode once and then kids listen to the recordings multiple times.  So Dorothy asked me, "Then  how do Andrew and Polly know that kids listen again and again?"
