Brian installed a shade on our kitchen window; when it is raised, it disappears completely behind the valence.  When Dorothy came home from school, I said, "I have a surprise to show you," and I reached up and pulled down the shade.  Her jaw dropped and she gasped, "Was that always there?!"

Brian offered Dorothy some pecan butter for her waffle; she declined, and said, "It just tastes like a thousand pecans in your mouth at once."

Dorothy was reading jokes to me and Brian.  "What is the Tooth Fairy's favorite animal?" she asked.  "A walrus," I suggested.  "No," she answered, "molar bears," and she further advised, "Don't forget that these are jokes."

"I have an idea," I started.  "Remember those pencils with your name on them that Santa brought?  I think we should sharpen them and start using them."  "That's not much of an idea," Dorothy responded.

During Easter Dorothy was observing the superhero play of her boy cousins.  Swinging a pretend sword to show me, she described, "They were using plastic garden tools as fighting supplies."

Dorothy reported:  "All the girls got to go across the hall to Ms. Cavender's room for a dance party.  The boys had to stay behind and get a talking to."  "Why?" I asked.  "There keeps being pee on the bathroom floor," Dorothy explained.

Dorothy wanted me to cut her hair.  I asked why, and mentioned that it was already pretty short and still looks good.  "It's fun and I like the sound of the cutting," she explained.

Dorothy recently lost a tooth and twice she has referred to it as her "bitter tooth."  She has commented that some foods taste too sweet, and it must be because she lost her bitter tooth.

"Sew, a needle pulling thread," I sang.  "So, a start in conversation," Dorothy responded.  (She claims she made this up.)

Dorothy's school assignment was to invent something and make a model.  She invented the "Wifi World Truck," a wifi-enabled car, so that she can watch YouTube on road trips.  She showed off her model in what turned out to be a 6-minute video tour, but I have shared here the first 30 seconds -- this intro was her brainchild.
