The Sunday Funnies

We were discussing how some people talk on the phone a lot, but I do not.  Dorothy noted that I use Marco Polo instead.  "I liked you better before you learned about Marco Polo," she told me.

We saw a mom driving without her kids, and Dorothy remarked, "Maybe she went to the grocery store, or to change the gas in the car."

Dorothy asked about a sign on the door of a store about liability for illness or death from COVID-19, and I explained simply, "It's saying that if you come in the store and catch COVID and die, you can't sue the store."  "Or someone else can't sue," she pointed out, "because you can't sue if you're dead."

I left a note for our houseguests in case they arrived when we weren't home.  We beat them home, and Dorothy told me, "That note is so funny.  I think you should leave it on the door, because if you say those words out loud, they won't be as funny as reading them."

The Monday Funny

One of Dorothy's podcasts has some funny characters, including, this time, Bob Ralph Macchio.  "He must have gotten married, " Dorothy said, "because his name used to be Bob Ralph Nader."

The Sunday Funnies

I challenged Dorothy with a tongue twister.  "I finally understand what it means to say something three times fast," she told me.  "I always thought it meant to say it three times faster than the normal speed."

I offered to change the Elsa & Anna light switch cover plate in Dorothy's room.  "I thought I'd ask because it seems like you're outgrowing Frozen," I said.  "Yeah," she said, "I am.  I mean, it would be better if it was Belle."

Dorothy wanted me to put on a song by that band "There May Be Giants."

The Sunday Funny

We got a new board game, The Game of Life, and Brian was doing the math out loud about whether we had time to fit it in before Dorothy needed to go to bed.  "You two can play it after I go to bed," she said, "after all, it's ages ten and up."

Dorothy drew her actual friends

(Dorothy pointed out that I posted the picture upside-down.  She is at the bottom, but should be at the top.)

The Sunday Funnies

There is a picture book series with titles such as Never Marry a Mermaid and Never Upset a Unicorn.  Dorothy was making up a few, like Never Laugh at a Leprechaun.  I added, "Never Ask an Axolotl."  "It has to be a mystical creature," Dorothy clarified.

We've had Barbie toys and a thrift store Dreamhouse for quite a while.  Dorothy's friends are often more interested in them than she is.  I found a Barbie with a prosthetic leg in Walmart, and this was the ticket she needed to start playing with the toys.  When her friend Iona visited recently, Dorothy announced loudly as Iona walked through the front door, "Iona!  I have good news!  I'm finally into Barbies!"
