Dorothy tripped while running in rainboots (and shorts).

The Sunday Funnies
Taylor Swift has a song that says "I like shiny things but I'd marry you with paper rings." Dorothy asked me for an explanation, and then followed-up: "How about marry with no rings?"
Dorothy and I were face-to-face. "I can see me in your eyes," she said. "I can see my reflection in your eyes!" I said. "Open your mouth," Dorothy instructed. "I want to see if I can see my reflection in your mouth."
Dorothy watches a children's show called Super Monsters starring happy kid-versions of Frankenstein, and a vampire, and a werewolf, and more. A recent episode focused on Dia de los Muertos, and the kid-monsters honor their deceased relatives, including a witch, a zombie, etc. Dorothy told me, "I don't think the day should be called 'Dia de los Werewolves,' since it is about more than just werewolves."
When I dropped Dorothy off at school, I saw her teacher in the distance and I said, "Ms. Cail always looks so nice and fancy." Dorothy said, "And she's always so busy."
Brian was cutting a jalapeño. "Jalapeño is a Spanish word," I told Dorothy. "What is the other word for it?" she asked.
Dorothy asked why her school was closed for three days last week. "It's so all the teachers can go to a conference," I said. She asked more questions, and I gave a loose explanation of all the teachers getting together to learn new things. "All the teachers?" she asked. "Mmhmmm," I said, not bothering to note that it was all the teachers at the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Savannah. She had a look of deep thought on her face, and after a long pause, asked, "Do you mean all the teachers who speak the same language?"

The Sunday Funnies
I cut a rose from our bush and put it on the kitchen table. When it was over a week old and past its peak, Dorothy asked when I was going to replace "the rusty rose".
Aunt Cathy mentioned that her little dog won't go near a certain relative, who dropped the dog when it was a puppy. Three months later, our neighbor mentioned that her little dog doesn't like to be picked up because her son dropped it when it was a puppy. Dorothy apparently took both stories to heart, and later observed, "The same thing happened to both puppies, but they had different feelings about it."
Since Dorothy turned five, we've been telling her that it's the right time to do certain tasks for herself. Dorothy ventured, "I think it's the right time for you to get me a slide in the backyard so I can go out there when you're too tired to go to the playground."
When Dorothy is very tired and crying at bedtime, she asks for "Crying Raggy," her nickname for her Raggedy Ann doll on which she wipes her tears.

The Sunday Funnies
We had a The Day Jimmy's Boa Constrictor Ate the Wash moment after school. Dorothy told me, "There was a dead squirrel on the playground today." "Oh?" I asked. "How do you know it was dead?" "Because we poked it with a stick." "You poked it?!" I exclaimed. "Well, I didn't, but Clara poked it with a stick," she continued. "And then Raphael threw it." (pauses, then continues: "Raphael loves animals.")
We were doing a Highlights picture page which had some nonsense drawings, and Dorothy observed, "That's funny. The cow is holding a cowculator."
"Langston was really mean at school today," Dorothy said. "He hit people. A lot." (pause) "Langston sits at table 6." (pause) "Langston is the only person who sits at table 6."
"Dorothy," I said, "I love the dress you're wearing. When I saw that in the store, I knew I had to get it for you." "No, Mama, you're wrong," Dorothy corrected me. "The Easter Bunny brought me this dress."
We see a flock of birds on the same corner on the way to school every morning. We were joking about what the birds do all day, and whether they go to school.
"Do you think they go to music class and learn to tweet?" I asked. "Do they go to p.e. and learn to fly?"
Dorothy countered, "Actually, they do flapping jacks."
[Her grin was enormous as she realized how funny this was.] "That's the funniest thing you've said all week," I told her. Dorothy offered, "You can put it in The Sunday Funnies."
